Global Ban for Chelsea Fan

A Chelsea fan was banned from attending football matches worldwide for three years after racially abusing Didier Drogba.

Stephen Fitzwater was heard yelling the offensive comments towards the Ivory Coast-born Blues striker during the April 15 FA Cup semi-final against Tottenham Hotspur at London's Wembley Stadium, The Guardianreported.

The 55-year-old from Isleworth, west London, was reported to a steward by other supporters, who took offense to the abuse and he was subsequently arrested by Scotland Yard's soccer intelligence unit.

Scotland Yard said he was found guilty at Hendon Magistrates' Court after admitting to racially aggravated abuse.

The three-year ban prevents him from attending any regulated football match in the UK or abroad. Chelsea also handed Fitzwater a lifetime ban from the club.

"Chelsea Football Club and the overwhelming majority of our fans abhor all forms of discrimination and believe they have no place in our club or our communities," the team said.

"We would like to thank Chelsea fans for reporting this incident and others which occurred during the semi-final, as a result of which a number of persons have been banned for using racial and abusive language."
