Chelsea's Claudio Chooses Monaco

Former-Chelsea manager Claudio Ranieri is close to being named as the new manager of French side AS Monaco, reports in France suggest.

Ranieri, who had an unsuccessful stint at the helm of Inter Milan this season, looks set to assume the manager's position at Monaco as they look to return to Ligue 1 at the second attempt.

The Italian's last major trophy as a manager was the 1999 Copa del Rey final with Valencia, but he has a good record of achieving promotion from the Italian second-tier - having achieved the feat three times.

Linked with West Brom, Ranieri appears to have decided to take over at the Stade Louis II this summer. Monaco recovered from a disastrous start to life in Ligue 2 to finish 8th at the end of the 2011-12 campaign.
