Ecclestone Wants Three US GP's

F1 supremo Bernie Ecclestone has revealed he wants three different grands prix to be held in the United States.

The sport is making its first trip stateside in five years this weekend for the inaugural race at the purpose-built Circuit of the Americas in Austin, Texas.

But speaking to Sky Sports News, Ecclestone outlined his intention to make America a regular destination on the calendar despite the disappointment of having to cancel plans to introduce a second America-based grand prix in 2013 due to concerns about the state of readiness of the proposed circuit in New Jersey.

"We need to get that New Jersey-New York event working," Ecclestone told Sky's Craig Slater, "and maybe one in southern California as well.

"We want three races here."

Although a potential vacancy remains for 2013 following the cancellation of the New Jersey event, the current 20-race calendar is widely regarded to have reached saturation point.

Were a third American GP to be accommodated, it would almost certainly be at the expense of a European event, with Ecclestone telling Sky Sports F1's Martin Brundle last month "we'll probably lose two or three more races in Europe as we have to sort of move on."
