Hector Camacho Shot in Attack


Former Puerto Rican world boxing champion Hector "Macho" Camacho has been shot in the face and left seriously injured in a drive-by attack.

Camacho was in a car that was fired on by unknown gunmen just outside the capital, San Juan, police said.

Doctors told local media that a bullet hit Camacho in the jaw, exited his head, and broke two vertebrae.

The boxer, 50, won three world titles. His last title fight was in 1997 when he was beaten by Oscar De La Hoya.

The shooting happened on Tuesday in Bayamon, south-west of San Juan.

According to police, gunmen shot at the vehicle, killing the driver who was named as Alberto Yamil Mojica Moreno and injuring Camacho.

Camacho was taken to a hospital in San Juan, where the director, Dr Ernesto Torres, said he was in a critical but stable condition.
