Sordo Needs Monte Focus

Dani Sordo says he must remain focused when Rallye Monte-Carlo resumes on Saturday afternoon. Sordo, from Spain, holds a comfortable second place on the World Rally Championship event in his MINI John Cooper Works WRC.

Five stages separate Sordo from his third podium finish since he joined MINI last season and his 32nd since he graduated to the world championship’s big league in 2006 after winning the Junior world title.

“We still need to stay focused as anything can happen on this rally,” said the 28-year-old. “If the conditions are okay for the rest of the rally, it will be okay, but if it starts raining or snowing we have to be careful as in this rally it is very easy to make a mistake.”

Sordo’s team-mate Pierre Campana, in the second factory MINI, continues to make progress. After 13 stages the young Corsican driver is seventh overall.

“This morning in the first stage I was careful to manage the tyres,” he said. “In the second stage my tyres were in good condition. The stage was very tricky because at the start it was raining and then at the end it was covered in ice. However, all in all this was a very good day for me and I am enjoying the rally more and more.”
