Former New Zealand attack coach Wayne Smith says he would consider a role in the new-look England management set-up.
Smith is committed to Super 15 side Waikato Chiefs until at least September, but is keen on a return to international rugby.
"If it [England job] ever came along I'd have to look at it," he said. "But certainly not in the next six months."
The Rugby Football Union are finalising an interim management team for the Six Nations.
They will then appoint a new permanent head coach and backroom staff for the summer tour to South Africa.
"There are always opportunities on the table," added Smith. "I'd like to coach Test match rugby again as a head coach or within an environment like we had [at the All Blacks].
"It was like being head coach, you had the same accountabilities."
Smith has signed a two-year deal to work as assistant coach with the Chiefs but head coach Dave Rennie confirmed they would not hold him to it.
"It was a real coup getting Smithy in the first place," said Rennie. "He signed a two-year deal but our view has been that if he got the opportunity to coach international rugby again we would not stand in his way at all."
The RFU hope to appoint a new chief executive by the turn of the year, who will then oversee the recruitment of the coach.
Martin Johnson resigned as England head coach last month after a dismal world cup campaign.
