Redknapp Rues Lost Blackpool Points

Tottenham Hotspur manager, Harry Redknapp, was left to reflect on missed opportunities after Saturday's 1-1 draw against Blackpool - both in terms of the match and our fight for a place in the top four.

Manchester City's defeat at Everton earlier in the day meant victory over the Seasiders would have moved us to within four points of Roberto Mancini's men with a trip to Eastlands on Tuesday.

Jermain Defoe hammered home the equaliser in the last minute but we couldn't find a winner in six minutes of injury time.

That added time was mainly for an injury to Gareth Bale who was stretchered off after a challenge from Adam in the 62nd minute.

"We needed a win today, really," conceded Harry. "Anything less was no good to us, we needed to pick up three points.

"We've struggled of late to score goals at home and we've not been able to kill teams off.

"We've had a few games where we've had lots of the play, passed the ball great but not managed to beat teams because we've not taken the opportunities we've created.

"You have spells like that. You have opportunities and you look at games, you think you can win them but it doesn't go your way. It's difficult to put your finger on it.

"Give credit to Blackpool as well. They worked hard, had a real go and that's how they started the season.

"It just wasn't to be for us. It wasn't through lack of effort, we couldn't quite score the goals we needed."

Blackpool's goal capped an incredible spell where Heurelho Gomes saved Adam's penalty only to concede another spot-kick direct from the corner. Adam stepped up again and drilled home.

"It was a great save from the first one and then everyone got too excited," added Harry.

"I thought 'hang on, let's calm down and deal with the situation' but we didn't, the ball came back in and we gave away another penalty."

Meanwhile, Harry reported that Gareth had suffered an ankle injury and went for scans after the match. "We'll have to wait and see but he certainly won't be fit to play this week," he said.
