Eriksson Makes Thailand Move

Sven Goran Eriksson has been unveiled as Thai club BEC Tero Sasana's new technical director.

The 64-year-old, who left Leicester in October last year, will oversee strategic planning and support the coaching staff of the two-time Thai champions.

'I believe the players are eager to learn from a world-class expert,' Robert Procureur, the club's general manager, said in a statement prior to Eriksson's arrival.

Eriksson, who managed Manchester City under Thai owner Thaksin Shinawatra, had previously expressed his fondness for the tropical climes of Thailand.

The former England manager makes his first venture into Asian football having built up a wealth of experience over more than 30 years of coaching.

The Swede counts Manchester City, Fiorentina, Benfica, Roma, Lazio and IFK Gothenburg among the clubs he has managed, while at international level he has been in charge of Mexico, Cote d'Ivoire as well as England.

Eriksson's last management position was in charge of npower Championship side Leicester City, who he left last October following a mediocre start to the 2011/12 season.

BEC Tero, who won the Thai Premier League in 2000 and 2001, are currently fourth in the league standings on 39 points, 22 behind the leaders, after failing to win any of their last five matches.

Dietmar Hamann wrote in his autobiography that his former manager wanted to manage for a few more years before moving to the south east Asian country to reside with two beautiful women.

Hamman recalled Eriksson telling him on a pre-season tour of Thailand: 'You know Kaiser, I like this place. I think I will manage for another five years and come back here and live with two women.

'Yes. I think I need two beautiful women.'
