Windies and Aussies Set for Draw

The second Test between West Indies and Australia looks to be heading towards a draw after rain ruined day four at the Queen's Park Oval.

Only 30.4 overs were possible on Wednesday as the tourists reached 73-3 in their second innings, meaning an overall lead of 127.

However, their hopes of pushing on their advantage were dashed by a torrential downpour that left standing water on the outfield. Although the weather did improve, there was no chance of any further play.

The tourists had wrapped up West Indies' first innings inside an over at the start, Carlton Baugh adding a boundary before perishing lbw.

The wicketkeeper fell to Michael Beer for 31 to the fourth ball of the day, a decision only given after a DRS review as Baugh missed an attempted sweep to one that turned after pitching on leg stump.

Coming out to bat for a second time already 54 runs ahead, Australia were given an early scare when they lost two wickets in the 11th over.

Kemar Roach made an instant impact after being overlooked for the new ball, firstly getting left-hander David Warner caught at first slip by Darren Bravo for 17.

Just three balls later and the paceman was celebrating again, this time Shane Watson the man to go in spectacular fashion as his off stump was knocked out of the ground by a full delivery that went in between bat and pad.

Ricky Ponting was then fortunate to survive a run-out chance before he had got off the mark, while Adrian Barath was unable to hang on to a sharp bat-pad chance at short leg when he'd made just three.

But the former Australia skipper managed to overcome the shaky start and began to blossom either side of an early lunch, hitting two boundaries to reach 32 not out.

West Indies did strike once more before the heavens opened, opener Ed Cowan (20) adjudged leg before to become Roach's third victim, giving him a career-best eight wickets in the match already.

Michael Clarke (three not out) added 16 runs in combination with Ponting up until the time rain intervened. With the forecast not great for Thursday, it seems the series will be still alive heading to the final Test in Dominica.
