UK Sport has appointed Simon Timson as its new performance director.
Timson is currently head of the England and Wales Cricket Board's (ECB) development programme and science and medicine, playing a role in the England team's recent success.
He will be responsible for UK Sport's high-performance system, helping to ensure elite athletes are successful at future Olympic and Paralympic Games.
"I'm delighted to be taking up this significant leadership role," he said.
Baroness Sue Campbell, chair of UK Sport, said: "London 2012 was a huge milestone on this incredible journey that British high-performance sport is on.
"We believe we have found the perfect person to build on this success and deliver a meaningful legacy for our future elite athletes."
Before working at the ECB, Timson was performance director to British Skeleton from 2000 to 2006 and played a pivotal role in medal successes at every Games since Salt Lake City in 2002.
Timson, who succeeds Peter Keen, will start his new role in January.
