Magath Loses Magic at Wolfsburg

Felix Magath's spell as Wolfsburg manager has ended after his notice of resignation was accepted by the German club.

Magath is the first manager to leave a Bundesliga club this season, but with Wolfsburg rooted to the bottom of the table the former Bayern Munich and Schalke manager was left with little option but to tender his resignation.

The club have lost their last four Bundesliga games without scoring a single goal, and a home defeat against Freiburg on Saturday seems to have been the final straw for Magath.

A club statement said that Magath offered to step aside "since the club had a predominant place in his heart" and he "did not want the club to suffer".

Magath had led Wolfsburg to their only ever Bundesliga title in 2008/9 but then left the club for a short spell at Schalke. He had been in the hotseat for 10 months.

The club's assistant coach Lorenz-Gunther Kostner has taken over team affairs.
