Monty Panesar reckons his spin partner Graeme Swann helped him to a five-wicket haul on day one of England's match against the Sri Lanka Board XI.
The Sussex bowler took 5-37 as England dismissed the home side for 169, while Swann was left wicketless.
But Panesar insisted there is no rivalry between the two. "He helps me from the other end," said Panesar.
"I'm guided by his experience and we share ideas. We're like a partnership to be honest. We work together."
Since being restored to the international set-up, Panesar has grabbed 'five-fors' in each of the four matches he has played, including 14 wickets in two Tests against Pakistan.
Panesar did not strike until his 15th over at the Premadasa Stadium, but went on to claim five of the last six wickets to fall and added: "With the spinners, collectively, we work well as a bowling unit out there."
Seamer James Anderson grabbed the first four Sri Lankan wickets in humid conditions, while paceman Steven Finn removed Ashen Silva, who top-scored with 66. Swann's return of 0-47 in 18 overs included four maidens.
Openers Andrew Strauss and Alastair Cook survived the one over bowled, before play closed with England 6-0.
The day had started badly for England, with Stuart Broad having to withdraw after tripping on a boundary rope and spraining his ankle.
