Williams Scarred by Cronje Scandal

Henry Williams has told BBC Radio 5 live that his involvement in the Hansie Cronje cricket match-fixing scandal of 2000 has left a "permanent scar".

Williams, who played seven one-day internationals for South Africa, took around £10,000 from ex-captain Cronje to play badly against India in 2000.

"You can't forget things in life, it's left a permanent scar," said Williams, 44, who was banned for six months.

Cronje got a life ban for admitting to receiving £100,000 from bookmakers.

Fellow South African cricketer Herschelle Gibbs was given a six-month ban for his part in the scandal.

The week marks the 10th anniversary of the plane crash that killed Cronje.

"He [Cronje] never said, 'Sorry for what I did to harm you', or anything," added Williams. "He's dead now and he still worries me.

"When they [acquaintances] sit with friends and have parties they will talk about it and say, 'There's that cheat walking'. You can feel people talking about you behind your back."

Meanwhile, former South Africa international Clive Rice said that more measures had to be put in place to prevent match-fixing scandals from happening.

"I think players need protecting," he told BBC Radio 5 live.

"A youngster coming through may not have wealthy parents. They suddenly have big carrots being dangled in front of them. They have to know to not get involved."

Levi Hits Fastest T20 Century

South Africa's Richard Levi hit the fastest Twenty20 international century as the Proteas beat New Zealand by eight wickets in Hamilton.

Levi reached three figures off just 45 balls, which included a record 13 sixes.

In just his second international match, the 24-year-old opener made an unbeaten 117 from 67 balls.

Levi tops the list of the highest individual score recorded in a Twenty20 international.

West Indies batsman Chris Gayle has also reached 117 but needed six more balls to do so, while New Zealand's Brendon McCullum sits just below with 116.

Levi got his first 50 from 25 balls, and took just 20 more balls to reach his ton.

His remarkable feat ensured South Africa eased to the 174-run target to level the three-game series heading into the deciding match on Wednesday.

Philander Helps South Africa Win

South Africa secured a first home series win since 2008 with victory over Sri Lanka in the final Test.

Sri Lanka, following on, were bowled out for 342 in Cape Town despite Thilan Samaraweera's dogged unbeaten 115.

Vernon Philander, Imran Tahir and Jacques Kallis shared nine wickets for South Africa, who were left chasing just two to win.

Alviro Petersen hit the only ball of the innings, a Dhammika Prasad no-ball, for four.

The tourists began the fourth day on 138 for four - 203 behind - but aroused their hopes of taking the game into a fifth day when Samaraweera and Angelo Mathews batted through the morning session.

Their stand of 142 was broken when Mathews was trapped lbw for 63 by a delivery from Philander that kept low.

Although Samaraweera completed a second century in as many Tests, off 201 balls, he could not protect the Sri Lanka tail.

Thisara Perera swung Tahir to long-on after contributing 30 to a seventh-wicket partnership worth 56, and Kallis accounted for Rangana Herath and Chanaka Welegedara either side of Tahir having Prasad stumped.

Kallis finished with 3-35 to go with his first-innings 224, Tahir returned figures of 3-106 and Philander claimed 3-54.

The series victory was South Africa's first on home soil since they beat Bangladesh in late 2008.
