Moyes Rejected Job Offers

David Moyes rejected a number of job offers from other clubs before being sacked by Real Sociedad last week.

In a statement made to the League Managers Association (LMA), the former Everton and Manchester United manager admitted his disappointment at having his reign in the Basque country cut short despite helping the club finish 12th in La Liga during the 2014-15 campaign.

The San Sebastián team have managed to pick up only two wins this season, leaving them in 16th, and Moyes was replaced by the former Barcelona assistant coach Eusebio Sacristán.

In the statement, Moyes said: “I am disappointed to have left Real Sociedad. When I accepted the job as manager of La Real last November, my remit was to avoid relegation and retain the club’s La Liga status. We succeeded in attaining that target.

“I made a firm promise to Real Sociedad to honour my contract and it is disappointing not to be able to fulfil this commitment especially when I have turned down a number of job opportunities in recent months.”

“I would like to thank the club and the President for giving me the opportunity to manage in Spain, at a club with such a rich history of employing British managers.

“I would also like to thank the players, staff and my assistant, Billy McKinlay, for their support and the wonderful people of San Sebastian.”

Sociedad Sack David Moyes

David Moyes has been sacked as manager of Real Sociedad and replaced with former Barcelona assistant Eusebio Sacristan.

Moyes, who took over the club almost exactly a year ago - seven months after his dismissal by Manchester United - won just two of his 11 La Liga games in charge this season and the team are 16th in the division.

He won 12 games out of 38 altogether and his side beat Barcelona in January, but ultimately finished 12th last season.

In a statement Sociedad said: "[We] have decided to terminate the contract of first team coach David Moyes. His assistant Billy McKinlay has also left the club.

"[We] wish to thank both David and Billy for the…professionalism and dedication they have shown during the course of their duties with the first team. We wish them both the best for their professional and personal future."

The former Everton manager's last game was Friday's 2-0 loss to recently-promoted Las Palmas.

Former Celta Vigo boss Eusebio has been without a club since his contract was terminated as Barcelona B's coach in February and is now tasked with taking Sociedad up the table.

The new head coach said of his appointment: "I am proud and honoured to coach this club. It fills me with enthusiasm, the challenge of coming here to get to live beautiful moments.

"(The team) has all the conditions to grow and improve. Now (we) have to work and get that level of demand and commitment to change the dynamic and move forward."

The 51-year-old's first game in charge will be against Sevilla at the San Sebastian after the international break before La Real travel to the Nou Camp to face defending Spanish champions Barcelona on November 28.
