Benny and The Jets at Chelsea

Chelsea have denied reports that Avram Grant could return to the club.

Grant worked as director of football at Chelsea at the start of the 2007-08 season before becoming caretaker manager after the dismissal of Jose Mourinho.

As caretaker, he led the Blues to their first Champions League final, in which they lost to Manchester United on penalties, but was relieved of his duties at the end of the campaign.

He has since taken charge of Portsmouth and West Ham in the Premier League, although he was unable to prevent either club's relegation to the Championship, before moving to Partizan Belgrade at the start of 2012. He led them to the Serbian league title in April before resigning the following month.

There had been speculation in a number of British newspapers on Monday that Chelsea owner Roman Abramovich was considering re-employing Grant to assist interim coach Rafa Benitez, who has endured a miserable start to his tenure, taking only two points from three games.

However, a Chelsea spokesman said on Monday: "There is no truth in the reports."

Benitez said after the 3-1 defeat to West Ham United on Saturday lunchtime that he was "not 100% sure" his position was safe.
