Defending champions Spain reached the final of the Davis Cup as David Ferrer's win over John Isner gave them a 3-1 victory in Gijon.
Twins Bob and Mike Bryan beat Marcel Granollers and Marc Lopez in Saturday's doubles to keep the tie alive after Spain had won the opening two singles.
However, Ferrer, 30, sealed the Spanish victory by beating the big-serving Isner 6-7 6-3 6-4 6-2 on Sunday.
Spain will face either Argentina or Czech Republic in November's final.
The hosts got off to a good start to the tie, which was being played on clay, when world number five Ferrer beat Sam Querrey 4-6 6-2 6-2 6-4 on Friday.
Nicolas Almagro then beat Isner 6-4 4-6 6-4 3-6 7-5 to put Spain, who are without the injured Rafael Nadal, in a commanding position.
The Bryans gave the Americans hope with their 6-3 3-6 7-5 7-5 win over Granollers and Lopez, and Isner got off to a good start on Sunday.
He took the first set in a tie-break but 70 unforced errors to Ferrer's 32 meant the Spaniard was able to battle back and seal the win despite the American hitting 11 more aces.
