Prince Felipe of Spain made a surprise visit to the Lisbon Race Village on Friday, joining Telefónica and Volvo Ocean Race CEO Knut Frostad at the team base.
The Prince, a keen sailor who represented Spain at the 1992 Olympics in Barcelona, took advantage of a gap in his schedule to renew his acquaintance with Iker Martínez and the rest of the Telefónica sailors and shore crew.
it is the third time Prince Felipe has shown his support for the race. On October 7 last year he attended the christening of Telefónica boat along with his wife, Princess Letizia, who took on the role of the boat´s godmother.
He was also present in Alicante for the start of the first offshore leg to Cape Town.
The race for fourth and fifth turned into an excruciating, slow-motion match race in the early hours of Friday morning, with Telefónica holding off arch-rivals CAMPER for a five-point bump that may yet prove crucial.
