Jimmy Defoe Passes Away - RIP

Jermain Defoe is heading home from England's Euro 2012 base in Krakow following the death of his father but is planning to re-join the squad.

Defoe formed part of their 23-man travelling party that arrived on Wednesday but will be heading home following the passing of his father.

Aston Villa striker Darren Bent was believed to have been placed on standby, but the Football Association expects Defoe to return to Roy Hodgson's plans.

"England striker Jermain Defoe has returned home to England this morning following the passing of his father overnight," read a statement released on the FA's official website.

"Jermain will re-join the England Euro squad in due course. There will be no replacement player called in.

"We would ask all media to respect Jermain and his family's privacy at this difficult time."
