An air ambulance landed on the pitch at the Kidderminster Harriers' ground to pick up an injured player.
Harriers' player Anthony Malbon, 20, underwent nine minutes of treatment before being stretchered off.
Fans had to leave the Aggborough ground to allow the helicopter to pick up the striker, during the Blue Square Premier League game against Mansfield Town.
It prompted the referee to blow the final whistle during injury time, leaving the Harriers with a 3-0 defeat.
Dr Phillip Earl, the club's doctor, said: "[Malbon] suffered a significant blow to his head and neck and was unconscious for a couple of minutes.
"He's still suffering from quite a significant amount of pain in the right side of his neck and a splitting headache so we thought the best thing was to get him to hospital."
The air ambulance took the player to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham.
Kidderminster Harriers needed to win the game to keep alive any hopes of reaching the play-offs in the league.
Their defeat means they finish in sixth place for the second season running.
