For a little over an hour, Luke Donald’s participation in the second round of the Masters was in doubt.
At 5:10 p.m. an announcement that the competition committee was looking into questions about Donald’s scorecard was made in the media centre.
Rumours of an issue had been circulating for about 30 minutes more.
The scoring system was showing Donald finished with a 73. However, as it turns out, what looked like a 3 at the fifth hole was actually a 5 — and the world No. 1 had signed for the correct 75.
The official announcement was made at 6:05 p.m. "Luke Donald signed for a correct score of 3-over 75, including a bogey 5 on the fifth hole. Due to an administrative error an incorrect score on the fifth hole was entered into our scoring system. That error has has been corrected."
Donald is now tied for 63rd and eight strokes behind Lee Westwood with work to do to make the cut on Friday afternoon.
