Ajax says Johan Cruyff has resigned as a board member but will take on a new, unspecified position at the Amsterdam soccer club where he can carry out his vision for reforms.
Cruyff has been at the centre of a long-running feud among the Dutch club's leadership. Cruyff won a court battle in February overturning the appointment of Louis van Gaal as CEO by other board members against Cruyff's wishes. Cruyff resigned Tuesday with an agreement in place for choosing a new board.
Ajax said in a statement that Cruyff will "remain involved with the implementation of his football vision within the club," and his job title will be defined later.
Cruyff's appointees, including coach Frank de Boer and the trainers of Ajax's youth program, will remain.
