Shelley Rudman Takes Third

Britain's Shelley Rudman beat the weather to take third place in the women's skeleton event at the European Championships in Germany.

Bad weather in Altenberg reduced the event and the men's two-man bobsleigh to a single run.

Germany's Anje Huber took gold in a time of 59.87 to beat her fellow German Katharina Heinz by a tenth of a second.

Rudman, the defending European champion, finished 0.12 seconds behind the German.

Salt Lake City Olympic silver medallist Rudman tweeted afterwards: "3rd!!! First World Cup podium this season and also 3rd in the European Champs. Very happy with today's runs. It was so close with the top 4. Just 100ths, but great to podium on a German track."

Huber's victory was her fourth European title but her first win in the current World Cup season, and moves her up to sixth in the World Cup standings.

Canada's Mellisa Hollingsworth remains top, despite her fifth place finish in Altenberg.
