Keane for Club and Country

Aston Villa are believed to be interested in signing Los Angeles Galaxy striker Robbie Keane on a two-month loan deal.

But in the immediate future, Keane will train with his former club Spurs until 21 January.

Villa boss Alex McLeish is a long-time fan of the 31-year-old Republic of Ireland captain.

Last season, when he was Birmingham manager, McLeish came close to signing Keane in a £6m deal from Spurs.

The two clubs agreed a fee but personal terms proved a stumbling block and Keane joined West Ham on loan before making the switch to the United States last summer.

Terms have yet to be finalised but if Keane joined Villa, he would link up with Ireland team-mates Shay Given and Richard Dunne.

It is believed Keane wants to stay sharp for the Euro 2012 finals by continuing to play before the Major Soccer League season begins in March.
