Captain Eoin Morgan said several rain disruptions had made it a challenging day for the young England side which beat his native Ireland by 11 runs.
It was a second-string English side which came out on top at Clontarf and Dublin-born Morgan believed his team contained some good prospects.
"Coming on and off the field was testing for us. It was a good challenge and an entertaining game," said Morgan.
"The guys held their nerve and they are ones to look out for in the future."
Morgan said he had enjoyed the leading the team and was happy with the performance.
His Ireland counterpart William Porterfield refused to blame the weather for the outcome.
"It is swings and roundabouts. It probably worked for us a bit, worked for them a bit throughout the day," said the Warwickshire batsman.
"It was a bit frustrating coming on and off for rain and a bit disappointing in the end. We gave it a crack, that is all we could do
"At half-time were were pretty happy but unfortunately the rain came again.
"I thought 87 was a bit much at the end off the 10 overs, but that is the way it goes. We just came up short."
