Ancellotti Insists Torres Will Come Good

Fernando Torres

Carlo Ancelotti insists that Fernando Torres will come good for Chelsea in the same way Wayne Rooney has rediscovered his form for Manchester United.

Torres is in danger of becoming the most expensive flop in the history of football after failing to score once since his £50million move from Liverpool in January.

Comparing him to Rooney, who endured a miserable 12 months until hitting top form recently, Ancelotti said: "Obviously he's not happy, and he is disappointed, but it's not easy for him to manage at this moment. He has to show character."

He added: "Rooney lived the same situation: he was not playing well and not scoring, but everyone at the club maintained good confidence with him.Everyone believed that he could move on, and he moved very well. Now Rooney has come back to playing fantastic football.

"Torres is the same. One goal will give him the opportunity to move on quickly."

The Spain striker looks bereft of confidence and Ancelotti's decision to pick him ahead of Didier Drogba for Tuesday night's Champions League defeat at Manchester United backfired spectacularly.

The Blues boss had not decided on Friday morning what part Torres would play in Saturday's Barclays Premier League game at West Brom but was adamant he would eventually start repaying his transfer fee.

Ancelotti added: "Torres is a fantastic transfer, not just for the present but also the future. To judge him now is not right. We have to wait. He will be a fantastic player for the future of Chelsea."
